One burglary suspect is in custody and two are still at large after their vehicle crashed through a fence and onto a front lawn on Ferndale Drive this afternoon.
Sgt. Angie Butler said a Barrie police officer tried to pull the suspects over, but their white Jeep sped off as soon as the siren and flashing lights were engaged.
“Once we realized the vehicle was not going to stop, we shut that down,” Butler said at the scene of the 2 p.m. crash at the corner of Ferndale and Cuthbert Street. “Safety is the top priority.”
Three suspects, who witnesses described as black, fled on foot after the crash.
One of the men was caught and arrested in a nearby park by a canine officer with the help of witnesses, Butler said.
Ferndale Woods Public School was placed in a hold and secure for about 20 minutes while police searched the area.
No one was home at the time of the crash and no was injured.
The incident started when witnesses called 911 saying they saw two black man bust down the door of a home in the Ferndale, Cumming Drive area cart out some goods and flee in the white Jeep.
Butler said police have surveillance video images of the suspects, which will be released to help them find the other suspects.
